Nice Pants, Coach

Der Leiermann

There, beyond the village,

Stands a hurdy-gurdy player;

With numb fingers

He plays as best he can.

Barefoot on the ice

He totters to and fro,

And his little plate

Remains forever empty.

No one wants to listen,

No one looks at him,

And the dogs growl

Around the old man.

And he lets everything

Go on as it will;

He plays and his

Hurdy-gurdy never stops.

Strange old man,

Shall I go with you?

Will you turn your

Hurdy-gurdy to my songs?

Crime Beat: Stuck on Coffee

Stabbed man puzzles police

Police are still puzzled by an incident involving a man with a 5-inch knife stuck into his chest who walked into a restaurant and ordered a coffee Sunday.

"His story is still questionable," Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said Thursday.

The 52-year-old man called 911 in Warren and said he was stabbed after a man tried to rob him.

The man told the operator to send an ambulance to Bray’s, a restaurant in neighboring Hazel Park.

While waiting for the ambulance, he cooly walked into the restaurant and ordered coffee, startling employees and customers, police said.

The restaurant manager was not available for comment Thursday.

The man, whom police have not identified, has recovered, according to police.

The god centered life

from the New York Times

A woman who answered the door at Mr. Taylor’s trailer in the Beverly Hills Mobile Home Park in Bristol, Tennessee, said that she was his girlfriend and that they spent a lot of time talking about religion. "This is totally out of character for the person I know," said the woman, who identified herself as Barbara but would not give her last name.

Mr. Taylor was released in December 1998 from a Florida prison after serving four years for shooting his ex-wife. The St. Petersberg Times reported in 1993 that Mr. Taylor shot Karen Taylor three times as she was walking through a parking lot.

At the time, Mr. Taylor was wanted on the lewd and ascivious behavior charges from a 1991 case involving a 13-year-old.

More than a decade later, Mr. Taylor is behind bars again after the post office attack, which the federal postal inspector said Mr. Taylor had planned for months or years.

Personal Assistant

Jeffery D. asks me to join his writing team, dangling Pam in front of my face as a "personal assistant" by way of inducement.

Given that, I can only accept and, inevitably, come up with a story about a guy in an office who slowly seduces his personal assistant, a scenario that unfolds in real life even as I’m dictating it to Pam.
