What is the true nature of female sexuality? The noted psychiatrist Mary Jane Sherfey suggests the startling possibility that female sexuality is literally an insatiable physical drive that has been powerfully repressed for the sake of orderly human relations.
On the findings of Masters and Johnson and her own research, Dr. Sherfey proposes that “the more orgasms a woman has, the stronger they become: the more orgasms she has the more she can have.” From her studies of the sexuality of the higher primates, she argues that “something akin to the behavior of these primates, who perform coitus from twenty to fifty times a day during periods of heat could be paralleled by the human female,” if her society permitted it.
