A Van Buren Township man was shot in the leg during a party at an Ann Arbor hotel early Saturday morning, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the Executive Hotel for a shots fired call about 12:30 a.m. and took statements from the people remaining at the scene about hearing a gunshot during a pay-for-entry party inside a ballroom.
Most of the crowd, estimated at about 160 people at its height, was gone when police arrived and no one reported any injuries or evidence of gunshots being fired.
About 90 minutes later, detectives were called to respond to the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital emergency room for a man who was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.
The 29-year-old man said he was at the party and did not realize he had been shot until he noticed blood on his pants awhile after leaving the party. The wound was not life threatening.
The man was dancing with the mother of his child when his girlfriend became upset and confronted the woman. He tried to intervene as their argument escalated, and was mistaken by other party-goers as assaulting one of the women, he said.
Another man confronted him and the shot was fired, causing most of the crowd to flee. Police said a suspect description was not available.
