In the crowded lobby of the chalet at the bottom of the hill. She’s vivid, fully realized, and I’m content to just watch her bustle around until she comes so close that our eyes meet and it would be weirder not to say something.
Hey, how are you?
Oh, hi she says, lighting up, but that legendary smile remains tentative.
You know you haven’t changed at all I say You look just like you used to trying to clue her in that I am a figure from her semi-distant past.
She doesn’t get it however, and in fact seems to think that I work here, asking me the best way to get her bags to the airport. I don’t contradict her, happy to help out as best I can.
Behind the chalet, my holiday’s complete.
Wow, I have this weird feeling…like I’m William Tell…
