THE SACRED WATER

It is said that Virgin Mary has spent her last days drinking this sacred water (30-35 A.D.). It is also believed that this sacred water in front of the House of the Virgin Mary cured various illnesses. Every summer, coming from various regions, the paralyzed, cripples of birth, patients which the doctors say it is impossible for them to get well miraculously recover from their illnesses here by drinking this sacred water. The crutches seen around the sacred fountains are the ones left by the paralyzed patients who get well here.

The sanctity of these fountains is believed not only by the Christinas but also by the Moslems.

After visiting the House of the Virgin Mary, the healing water flowing from these fountains is to be drunk and the faces washed with it.

It is often seen that the visitors fill the earth jugs they bought in Selcuk with the sacred water and take them back home as the most precious gifts.

Oh my! This is so fascinating. Really is. I adore stories about religion and spirituality that aren’t in mainstream talks and lectures. Thanks for sharing!
