Someone poured large bags of sand into the Thomas Cooley Memorial Fountain at 875 N. University Ave. Sunday night, police reports said.
A witness called University of Michigan police after seeing a person put what they thought were four bags of concrete mix into the fountain at about 9:45 p.m.
Officers responded and removed the bags, which were filled with sand. No suspect description was available Monday morning.
