Man’s DVD player stolen out of spite

A 45-year-old Ann Arbor woman was arrested for breaking into an ex-boyfriend’s home Tuesday and stealing a DVD player in response to their recent break-up, police said.

The 39-year-old homeowner called police around 11:40 a.m. after a neighbor called his cell phone and said she could see someone crawling through a window at his home. The person was gone when he arrived at the scene, but the homeowner recognized a set of keys belonging to his ex-girlfriend on a bathroom counter.

The home appeared messy but only a DVD player was missing.

The man told police he called the woman and she admitted entering his apartment. Police responded to the woman’s residence in Ann Arbor and she confirmed the man’s account. The 45-year-old woman said she was at a nearby bar and had to urinate and decided to go to her ex-boyfriend’s house. She said she took the DVD player out of anger because of their recent split and dumped it in bushes along Platt Road on her way home.

The woman was released pending formal charges.
