Thanks to my wife I’ve had a first hand look at the struggle it takes to put something like this on, especially when it’s done, as Dr, Johnson said in his memorable introduction to the first dictionary, with:

…little assistance of the learned, and without any patronage of the great; not in the soft obscurities of retirement or under the shelter of academic bowers, but amidst inconvenience and distraction, in sickness and sorrow.

And to this you can add the neglect of the myopic media and the sneers of the ypsipantied hipsters of this world. So here’s to Robin, the Hollanders, Gene, Bill, Jamie L., and everybody else who worked hard to make the Fest the smash hit I know it’s going to be tomorrow.
